What a Sharai Nikah Is
A Sharai Nikah is the Islamic marriage contract itself. It is complete once its conditions are met: both parties are identified and marrying of their own free will, Haq Mehr is agreed and stated, the Wali acts where the position followed requires one, competent witnesses are present, and the offer and the acceptance — Ijab-o-Qabool — take place in one sitting.
Nothing in that list depends on a government office, a licence or an official fee. Where the conditions are satisfied, the Nikah is valid in Islam. What follows on this page is how we arrange it for couples who are not in Pakistan, and what the options are afterwards.
A Religious Ceremony, Not a Civil Marriage
This is a religious Nikah only. It is not a civil marriage, a marriage licence or a state registration in the country where you live, and it is not presented as one. Civil recognition is governed by the law of the relevant country, state or province, and couples who also want a civil marriage there arrange that separately and locally.

None of these requires an explanation to us, and none of them changes what is arranged. The requirements of a valid Nikah are the same in every case.
Countries We Arrange Ceremonies For
Ceremonies are arranged for parties in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and elsewhere in Europe, in the United States and Canada, in the Gulf states, and in Australia. Where the two parties are in different countries, that is ordinary rather than exceptional, and the arrangement is the same.
The Online Sharai Nikah Process
Step-by-Step Procedure
The session itself is short. Most of the work is in the arrangements made beforehand, and that is deliberate.
- Initial enquiry — where each party is living, and which school of jurisprudence is to be followed.
- Identification and eligibility — passports or CNICs, ages, and previous marital status.
- Haq Mehr agreed, including whether it is prompt or deferred.
- Wali or Vakil arranged where the position followed requires one, with written authority where a Vakil acts.
- Witnesses confirmed and their identification collected.
- The ceremony, conducted by an authorised Nikah Khawan or Qazi, online at a time convenient across the relevant time zones.
Witnesses for a Religious Nikah
For a Sunni Nikah, two adult sane Muslim male witnesses are required, or one male and two female witnesses. For a Shia Nikah, witnesses are not required in the same religious sense, although they are usually arranged in any event because they matter for the written record.
Witnesses may be friends or relatives of either party. Where a couple has nobody suitable available, tell us at the enquiry stage and the arrangement can be handled.
Wali and Vakil for Parties Abroad
Where the position followed requires a Wali for the bride (for Hanafi Sunni School of thought, Wali is not required), he may attend online or appoint someone to act. Where a party cannot attend the session at all, a Vakil may be appointed in writing to act on that party’s behalf, within the limits of the authority given — and the authority should state the intended spouse, the Haq Mehr and any conditions.
Haq Mehr
Haq Mehr is the wife’s right, agreed between the parties and stated at the ceremony. It may be money, gold, property or anything else of value, and the parties record how much is payable immediately and how much is deferred. There is no minimum imposed by us and no figure we suggest; what matters is that it is agreed, stated, and written down.
What Is Needed From Each Party
Eligibility for Online Nikah-e-Shari’a
Both parties must be adults. Where either was previously married, the divorce documentation or the death certificate of the former spouse is needed, and where a wife is within her waiting period the ceremony is arranged after it ends.
Practical Notes Before the Session
Agree the Haq Mehr in advance rather than on the call. Decide whether anything is to be recorded as a condition. Confirm the witnesses and send their identification early. Where a Vakil is to act, the written authority should be prepared before the date is fixed, because that is usually the step that governs the timetable.

The ceremony itself is usually completed in 20 to 25 minutes. Where the identification, witnesses and Haq Mehr are settled, a session can normally be arranged within a few days. Where a written Vakil authority has to be prepared and attested abroad, that step sets the timetable.
Registering in Pakistan Later, If You Ever Need To
Some couples take the religious Nikah now and find later that they need a Pakistani record — for a visa, a family tree entry, a child’s documentation or an inheritance matter. Where the marriage is connected with Pakistan, registration may be possible afterwards, and the route depends on the nationality of the parties, where the Nikah took place, and the office concerned.
